Corona Extra Wants to Refresh Who We Are

La Comunidad, the Hispanic AOR for Corona Extra, this week broke a new campaign encouraging U.S. Hispanics to reconnect with our Latino “cultural identity and values”… which, judging from these spots, means: Let’s not get too uptight about being on time, let’s dance like real Latinos and pleaaseee never send back a soccer ball with your hands! (Ser Latino es más relajado, ¡no nos gusta verte estresado!)

I personally think this is one of those instances where the use of stereotypes is not only OK, but by becoming the very heart of the campaign, they make it cool. What do you think?

Watch and enjoy. These are as fresh as that Corona beer in your freezer that you are just dying to pop open! Oh, and leave your comentarios por favor.

Meet Abraham Suarez… in All-Bran Commercial

Here is a hilarious commercial (running only in Mexico -for now) pitching strawberry-filled All-Bran bars. The spot is via Leo Burnett Mexico.

Latin America’s Weird, Magical Realism Stars in LatinWorks’ Campaign Pitching Film Festival

Austin, Texas-based LatinWorks has found an hilarious -and smartly crafted- way to pitch Cine Las Americas’ 2009 International Film Festival. Two spots use Latin America’s odd politics to show how much more magical can the region’s filmmaking be.

The first spot features former Argentina’s president Carlos Menem infamous speech in Salta, promising the construction of a space platform that would make traveling through the stratosphere possible, taking Argentinans to Japan, Korea and pretty much anywhere in the planet in a couple of hours.

The tagline is brilliant: “If this is our reality, imagine our films.”

The second spot is no less genial. It features Hurtado Miller, Peru’s Minister of Economy under Alberto Fujimori, talking about yet another stratospheric situation: the price increases of the Fujimori era.

A third spot features a man who used to dress up as a woman to sexually molest ladies at the Mexico City subway.

Being a Clown is not as Fun as You Think

This spot is not new. It first aired in 2008 but I was tempted to include it because it is a very unusual -and effective- way to pitch an international movie festival.

Client: Buenos Aires International Independent Film Festival

Agency: La Comunidad (Miami and Buenos Aires.)
